History

Universitas Battuta is a private university in Medan, located at Jl. Sei Batang Hari No.89, Babura Sunggal, Medan Sunggal District, Medan City, North Sumatra. The Universitas Battuta Foundation was established in 2018 under its deed of establishment (Ministry of Law and Human Rights Decree No. AHU-0012676.AH.01.04. Year 2018) on September 18, 2018, under the name Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Sumatera Utara (IT&B), with establishment permit No. 141/KPT/I/2019 dated March 4, 2019. It later changed its name to Universitas Battuta under permit No. 41/M/2020 dated January 8, 2020.

Before changing its name to Universitas Battuta, IT&B had two faculties: the Faculty of Technology and the Faculty of Business. The Faculty of Technology consisted of three departments: Bachelor of Informatics, Bachelor of Information Systems, and Bachelor of Information Technology. The Faculty of Business included Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Retail Management, and Bachelor of Entrepreneurship. After the name changed to Universitas Battuta, four additional departments were added: Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD), and Bachelor of Early Childhood Teacher Education (PGPAUD), under study program addition permit No. 300/E/O/2021.

Universitas Battuta is one of the respected universities in Medan. It was founded by Drs. H. Margono, S.E., M.M., who has a vision to develop generations who are excellent, educated, independent, professional, and moral. Known affectionately as Bapak Yayasan, he was born in 1957 and was educated at several of the best schools in Medan. He is the father of four children and holds three main principles in life: hard work, smart work, and sincere work.

Establishing a university was beyond what he had once imagined. Having risen from economic hardship and the limitations faced by his family while he and his siblings pursued education, he was moved to create opportunities for underprivileged and high-achieving students to receive education suited to their time. His hope is that every student who receives this opportunity can build a better life ahead, with perseverance and a sincere social spirit.

Tuition at Universitas Battuta is highly affordable, and the university offers many scholarship opportunities. On average, many students receive tuition discounts or full scholarships through to graduation, including foundation scholarships, achievement or athlete scholarships, scholarships for underprivileged students, and scholarships for Qur'an memorizers. Tuition discounts range from 50%, 60%, up to 100%.

Currently, all departments at Universitas Battuta are accredited, with an average rating of Very Good. Universitas Battuta has also signed memoranda of understanding with other higher education institutions, including Universitas Harapan Medan. The organizational structure includes Drs. H. Margono, S.E., M.M. as founder and chair of the Foundation, Dr. Evri Ekadiansyah, S.Kom., M.Kom. as Rector, Rudi Hermansyah Sitorus, M.Pd. as Vice Rector I, Irma Herliza Rizki, S.E., M.Si. as Vice Rector II, and Dr. Bambang Sutejo, S.Kom., S.E., M.M. as Vice Rector III.
